Nestled in the beautiful Cumberland Valley, Shippensburg is characteristic of rolling terrain against a backdrop of low mountain ranges to the south and east. Although notable supported by diversified manufacturing and agribusiness, farming is recognized as the foundation of Shippensburg’s economy because of the fertile Cumberland Valley soil and its desirable climate.
Settled in the 1730’s Shippensburg offers a desirable balance of industry, agriculture and education all in one community. Shippensburg was rated 27th in Norman Crampton’s 1995 book, 100 Best Small Towns in America. Shippensburg is also a friendly, attractive college town home to Shippensburg University.
State and county parks with recreational facilities are located all around the Shippensburg area. Within Shippensburg Borough is Dykeman Pond Wetlands Park, a refuge for waterfowl and fish.
We have a rich history and are proud to have our town center listed on the National Historic Register. There are a number of eighteenth and nineteenth century buildings located along King Street, Shippensburg’s main thoroughfare and also the Old Post Road, US Route 11.
